About me

My name is Emily Thurlow and I'm the woman that dons the many shoes that takes me on adventures inside and outside my professional career as a writer and photographer.

I'm an award-winning journalist as recognized by the New England Newspaper & Press Association for my projects related to business and health as well as several photo essays and a light-hearted humor column titled, "Through the Lens." With my extensive research into the opioid and opiate epidemic faced by communities throughout Western Massachusetts, I've often been jokingly nicknamed the "Drug Lady" with the compilation of a series of articles pieced together in the book: "Facing the Facts: Taking up Arms Against the Heroin Epidemic."

This blog is a continuation on a column first launched and published in Western Massachusetts while I worked as a reporter in 2014. Since that time, those shoes have walked me into a number of adventures across the U.S. and beyond.
Most recently, this spirited and sarcastic New Englander has ditched the sandals she was sporting in the balmy 100-degree temps of my Arizona home in exchange of some Mary Janes in Pennsylvania.
Whether its pumps, espadrilles, ballet flats or something else entirely, wherever these shoes end up taking me, there are plenty more stories to be shared.
